North Nova is a grade 9 to 12 high school located on the edge of the New Glasgow town limits at 343 Park St. (See Map). NNEC is in Mi'kmaki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
It opened in 2003 upon the amalgamation of three local high schools, East Pictou, New Glasgow and Trenton. A gryphon carrying a sword is our school mascot which represents the three previous high school's mascots, an Eagle, a Panther and a Trojan respectfully. NNEC presently has four junior high feeder schools, Frank H. MacDonald Academy, New Glasgow Academy, Thorburn Consolidated and Trenton Middle School which essentially makes up the eastern part of the county.
We host 900 students, approximately 54 teachers with over 80 staff in total. Our school motto is “Together We Can Make a Difference” and we are proud of the traditions and achievements. In addition to a strong academic program with a wide variety of courses to choose from, we are also known for our excellence in both Fine Arts and Athletics.
In the “student services” drop down menu choose "course options". This is where you can see our course selections for Grades 10-12 and information about Grade 9.
North Nova is very proud of its cultural diversity and connections with its local African Nova Scotian, Mi'kmaq and Newcomer communities. NNEC is also home to many International Exchange students throughout the school year. We have hosted students from Germany, Belarus, Mexico, Brazil, Columbia, Italy and China, just to name a few. Our welcome mat is out to students from all over the world. We know you will love NNEC. Our Pictou County hospitality is warm all year long, unlike our winter outdoor temperatures.
