Ken Roy Award est. 2013

Ken Roy

NNEC is proudto present aaward in memory of New Glasgow High School Graduate, Ken Roy. The Ken Roy Award recognizes the student at North Nova who best displayed passion and dedication to the performing arts over the past school year.

Ken Roy was a graduate of New Glasgow High School. While at NGHS Ken was actively involved in high school theatre. In his senior year, he wrote, directed and acted in a production of a one man play.

Ken went on to study at Dalhousie University's Theatre Department before moving to Ottawa to begin his dance career with Le Groupe de la Place Royale under the direction of artistic director Peter Boneham. He later joined his mentor Jean-Pierre Perreault in Montreal, for whom he danced for over ten years.

Ken became one of Canada's premier contemporary dancers performing in over 30 productions and six films. He worked with many of Canada's finest choreographers and performed throughout Canada, Scotland, Europe and Australia. In addition to performing, Ken was involved in producing and directing state productions.

Ken received some of his greatest joy from teaching. He taught contemporary dance for almost 20 years, the last 7 years at Concordia University. When Ken passed away in January 2012, many of his current and former students used Facebook and other social media sites to post hundreds of comments about the passion and dedication Ken displayed to his craft.

NNEC would like to express a sincere thank you to Ken Roy's family for the donation of this trophy & award.
